OVERVIEW

Introduction to the Gear Pump

A gear pump is a positive-displacement pump that moves hydraulic fluid through the repeated meshing and separation of gears inside a closely fitted housing. Fluid is carried around the outside of the gears from the inlet to the outlet, where the meshing teeth force it into the pressure line.

Gear pumps are known for simple construction, compact size, dependable operation, and economical maintenance. External and internal gear designs are widely used in mobile machinery, lubrication systems, industrial equipment, and hydraulic power units requiring consistent fixed-displacement flow.

Generate Continuous Hydraulic Flow

Generate Continuous Hydraulic Flow

As the gears rotate and unmesh at the inlet, they create increasing volume that draws hydraulic oil into the pump. The trapped fluid travels around the housing and is displaced at the outlet, producing a continuous flow for the rest of the hydraulic system.

Convert Shaft Rotation into Fluid Power

Convert Shaft Rotation into Fluid Power

An engine, electric motor, or power take-off drives the gear pump shaft. The pump converts this rotary mechanical input into hydraulic flow, while system resistance creates the pressure required to move cylinders, motors, valves, and auxiliary mechanisms.

Supply Work and Auxiliary Circuits

Supply Work and Auxiliary Circuits

Gear pumps provide a reliable fixed flow for lifting, steering, clamping, fan drives, lubrication, cooling, and other machine functions. Tandem and multiple-section designs can supply separate circuits from one compact drive arrangement.

Handle a Practical Range of Fluid Viscosities

Handle a Practical Range of Fluid Viscosities

With correct clearances and operating speed, a gear pump can transfer hydraulic oils and other compatible lubricating fluids across a useful viscosity range. This makes the design suitable for hydraulic power, oil circulation, lubrication, and fluid-transfer duties.

Provide Durable Service with Simple Maintenance

Provide Durable Service with Simple Maintenance

The small number of moving parts gives a gear pump a robust and serviceable structure. When protected from contamination, cavitation, overpressure, and excessive temperature, it can deliver repeatable performance over long operating periods at a competitive total cost.

Uses

Gear Pump Uses

Construction Machinery

Gear pumps power lifting, steering, braking, fan-drive, and auxiliary hydraulic circuits in loaders, dump trucks, compact equipment, and other construction machinery.

Agricultural Machinery

A gear pump supplies fixed hydraulic flow for tractor steering, implement lifting, tipping trailers, seeders, harvesters, and other agricultural machinery.

Marine & Ship Equipment

Gear pumps are used for marine hydraulic power, lubrication-oil circulation, fuel transfer, steering auxiliaries, and deck equipment.

Mining Equipment

Heavy-duty gear pumps support lubrication, cooling, steering, and auxiliary hydraulic functions in selected mining equipment.

How does a hydraulic gear pump work?

A hydraulic gear pump traps fluid between rotating gear teeth and the pump housing, carries it from the inlet around the outside of the gears, and forces it out when the teeth mesh again. It delivers nearly fixed displacement for each shaft revolution.

What is the difference between an external and an internal gear pump?

An external gear pump uses two similar gears with external teeth, while an internal gear pump uses an inner gear rotating inside a larger internally toothed gear. Internal designs can offer smoother, quieter flow, while external designs are especially simple and widely available.

How does a gear pump compare with a piston pump?

A gear pump is generally simpler, more compact, and more economical for fixed-flow, moderate-pressure service. A piston pump is typically preferred when the application requires higher pressure, variable displacement, advanced control, or greater efficiency across changing loads.

What are common signs of gear pump wear or cavitation?

Warning signs include increased noise, foaming, unstable pressure, reduced flow, slow actuator movement, overheating, and rising internal leakage. Check oil level, inlet restriction, fluid condition, filtration, shaft speed, seals, and gear or bearing wear before damage progresses.

Can you customize products, and is there a minimum order quantity?

Absolutely. We provide OEM/ODM services and can manufacture according to your samples or technical drawings. Yes, there is a minimum order quantity, but it is flexible. Spare parts often have an MOQ of 1 piece, while complete pumps or motors vary by model—please inquire for details.

How quickly can you deliver products, and what shipping methods are available?

For in-stock items, we can ship within 3 days. For custom or non-stock items, delivery usually takes 7–15 days. We’ll confirm exact timing based on current inventory. We offer flexible shipping via express carriers (DHL, FedEx, UPS) and sea freight (CIF/FOB). We can also deliver to your designated freight forwarder in China.

Are you a factory or a trading company, and how do you ensure product quality?

We are a hybrid—both a manufacturer and a trading company. We produce our own products and also source specific components to offer complete solutions. We follow strict quality control protocols. All parts undergo CNC machining and heat treatment, and each is 100% tested before delivery to guarantee precision and reliability.

What payment methods do you accept, and what is the warranty period?

We accept T/T, L/C, Western Union, Alibaba Trade Assurance, and VISA. For new customers, we usually require full prepayment or a 30% deposit with the balance due before shipment. All products come with a 1-year warranty, provided they are installed and operated under normal conditions.
